Introducing Fundación Karisma: The newest member of the DHRP Consortium

We are excited to welcome Fundación Karisma, a civil society organisation based in Colombia, as the newest member of the Digital Health and Rights Project.

Fundación Karisma’s strong commitment to promote and protect human rights and social justice in the design and use of digital technologies—combined with a proven track record of addressing implementation challenges and opportunities through their interdisciplinary technical, analytical and advocacy skills—bring valuable experience to the consortium. Their expertise will be instrumental in advancing inclusive, rights-based digital health solutions – particularly for young people living with HIV and other key populations in low and middle-income countries.

They are distinguished by their ability to monitor technological, public policy and legal trends to identify emerging digital rights issues. With their deep understanding of the digital landscape, they propose solutions through advocacy, policy, public campaigns and strategic litigation. Moreover, they provide technical guidance to a range of partners to promote best practices and resilient digital infrastructures.

Thus far, drawing on research from the DHRP, they are working to address historically overlooked issues – particularly those affecting people living with HIV, women, and youth—by shaping a national advocacy plan for our Community Advisory Teams (CATs) that advances equitable access to health, connectivity, and safe digital spaces. Their strategic diagnostic work will help define clear priorities and drive actionable policy change.

We are thrilled to join the DHRP consortium and contribute a Latin American perspective to the global conversation on human rights and technology. At Karisma, we believe in building South-South alliances and advancing the rights of women, youth, LGBTI communities, and people living with HIV through creative, community-driven and participatory approaches. This collaboration is an opportunity to learn from others while sharing our experiences in advocating for inclusive and rights-based digital policies” – Natalia Andrade, Project Coordinator at Karisma

We are looking forward to the journey ahead and the opportunity to collaborate with Fundación Karisma to foster sustainable impact in the digital health transformation. Stay tuned as we continue working together to advocate for rights-based digital governance in Colombia, Ghana, Kenya, Vietnam and beyond.
