MOOC “Rights and Health in the Digital Age: Protection and Advocacy”

In the digital age, human rights face new challenges and opportunities that directly impact our health, dignity, and well-being. This Massive Online Open Course (MOOC), led by Universidad de los Andes as part of the Digital Health and Rights Project, is offered free of charge through Coursera (Spanish language – English coming soon). Entitled “Rights and Health in the Digital Age: Protection and Advocacy,” offers an educational journey through the fundamental concepts of digital human rights, their international regulatory framework, their links to digital health, and advocacy strategies for their defense.

Through interactive tools, case studies, and multimedia resources, this course seeks to strengthen the critical understanding and action capacities of individuals and communities facing digital opportunities and risks, thereby promoting fairer, safer, and more equitable environments.

With a focus on the Global South and the experiences of community actors, the MOOC is an invitation to protect human rights in the digital world from a collective, participatory, and transformative perspective. When you complete the MOOC, you will be able to:

  1. Recognise and analyse digital rights as human rights, identifying their implications in the field of health.
  2. Explore international legal guidelines, principles, and developments related to digital rights and health.
  3. Identify digital security as a tool for protecting privacy, recognising its scope and limitations.
  4. Analyse privacy as a fundamental right and critically reflect on the structures that threaten it in digital environments.
